Ford E4OD and 4R100 transmissions are prone to case deflection because the OE design, which has a gap between the case and center support. When the center support bolts are torqued to OE specifications without the shim, typical case distortion is .005" in the area around the center support bolts, which causes valve body cross leaks as well as leaks of the 2nd clutch feed between the case and center support. Sonnax center support shim fills this gap so that when the center support bolts are tightened, it prevents the case from distorting, decreasing case deflection and reducing cross leaks.
